The Economics Olympiad (EO) is an impactful project improving the level of economic education and financial literacy across multiple countries. It was established by the Institute of Economic Education (INEV) in the Czech Republic in 2016 with the goal to fill the gap in teaching economics and finance at high schools. A year after the EO expanded to Slovakia.
The Economics Olympiad is now known as a very prestigious opportunity for high school students. The competition is designed for students between 14 and 20 years of age with no preference about the type of secondary school they are attending. The project is now supported by organisations as the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Czech Ministry of Finance or the Czech National Bank. The Economics Olympiad is organisationally and professionally guaranteed by the Institute of Economic Education. The Board of directors of the Institute consists of economists from the Czech National Bank and the University of Economics in Prague.
The Economics Olympiad is the biggest competition of its kind. I am pleased that it is successfully expanding to other countries. It creates a platform for international cooperation in the field of economic and financial education of secondary school students, the aim of which is to raise awareness of these topics among young people.

How does the Economics Olympiad work?
The EO consists of 4 rounds - school, regional, national, and international. The 5 best students from each participating school advance to the regional round and the winners from each region then compete in the national round.
School Rounds
School rounds are very easy to manage thanks to the online testing system. Test is designed for students from all secondary schools, even for students that never took economics before.
Regional Rounds
The most successful students from school rounds compete in regional rounds. Participants face more challenging test questions that are focused on their knowledge.
Finals
The national final round is designed to be an all-day event, which takes place at a representative venue. TOP students move to the International Final.
Research & Analysis
On the other hand, we bossed ourselves around, set impossible goals, and demanded longer hours than office jobs usually entail. It was the ultimate “flextime,” in that it depended on how flexible we felt each day, given deadlines, distractions, and the lives workaholic crescendos But on Aristotle’s view, the lives of individual human beings are invariably linked together in a social context.
